Lack Of Friendlies Isn't All That Bad

Only playing three pre-season friendlies has proved lucky for the Sky Blues in the past.

So far, Coventry City who head off to Austria on Monday for a weeks training, have only three friendlies definitely confirmed.

These are all away and at Cambridge United on July 26th, Livingston on July 29th and Kilmarnock on August 2nd.

Back in 1986, City only played three friendlies as part of their pre-season campaign. They won 1-0 at Wrexham on August 5th, drew 0-0 at Birmingham City and won 2-0 at Notts County before going onto win the FA Cup some nine months later after a good season in the top flight.

This was also the last time, Coventry City went through a pre-season unbeaten.

Back to the 2008 friendlies and as we understand it, the agent who is charged with fixing City up with opponents in Switzerland has let the club down, despite sorting out flights to Geneva and hotel accommodation plus training facilities not too far from Sion.

Whilst SISU don't want to pay out for a home friendly against a Premiership club and lose money from a poor gate which there traditionally is, thus adding to the £80k a week debts the club are currently losing and money which would come out of any budget for players for Chris Coleman.

If any more friendlies are arranged, this site will have full details.
