Knee Problem Forces Out Fox

A swelling on the knee has forced Coventry City left back Danny Fox out of England U21's friendly tonight with Paraguay in Malaga.

Fox is now hoping to be fit for Saturday's FA Cup Fifth Round tie at Blackburn Rovers.

The left back has admitted that he feels he is not yet ready for Premiership football and told the CT: "I don't think I am ready to play in the Premier League yet.

"I know I have to improve a lot if I want to play in the Premier League because I have got a lot to learn and hopefully I can do that under Chris Coleman.

"And hopefully we can build something here. The manager and all the players have said that before and hopefully we have got good times ahead.

"Everyone has down days like we have had in the last few weeks but to bounce back massively against top-of-the-league Wolves showed great character."

On the recent speculation about him moving to Newcastle United where his former boss Richard Money, a man who loves nothing more than putting one over on the club who sacked him for his allegiance to former Chairman Brian Richardson, Fox did not think there was much in it.

"There was just a lot of speculation but I don't think there was anything in it. "It is nice to be linked with big clubs like Newcastle because it maybe shows that I am doing my job right here, but as the gaffer and chairman have said many times, we are building here at Coventry.

"And if you look at James McPake's performance on Saturday, that typifies the building process that's going on and hopefully we can keep doing that. I am just looking forward to every game now.

"I don't think the speculation has affected my game. "To be honest I didn't really think about it, although I don't think my performances in the last few weeks have been as good as they were around December time.

"I am 22 and everyone has dips in form no matter how experienced or good you are, but hopefully I rectified that on Saturday.

"And hopefully I have turned the corner and am playing as well as I was before.

I have just got to keep concentrating week in and week out for Coventry and anything else, in terms of international opportunities, is a bonus."
