Kirkland To Reject Former Boss Advances

Chris Kirkland looks set to reject his former Coventry City manager and join West Bromwich Albion on a year's loan from Liverpool. Kirkland who was sold to the Scousers by Bryan Richardson in September 2001 for a reported £9m,wants to stay in the Premiership.

The Barwell born keeper also wants to win back his place in the England national team squad, something that will earn the Sky Blues £250,000 if he is successful and wins an international cap.

Kirkland's agent said: Chris is concerned that Scotland means "out of sight,out of mind. "The opportunities suit all parties and Liverpool can see Chris prove his fitness and see what he can do."

Meanwhile, Gordon Strachan is still hopeful in signing Craig Bellamy from Newcastle United. Celtic CEO Pete Lawwell said: "Talks with Newcastle and the players representatives are on-going and we hope that a deal can be done." Aston Villa and Everton are also reported to be interested in the former Coventry City player.
