Kirk Stephens The Match Day Guest

Last updated : 13 March 2018 By CCFPA

Don’t forget that the Coventry City Former Players Association’s ‘special guest’ at the Ricoh at the Sky Blues game floodlit tonight will be CCFPA President Kirk Stephens

After the Sky Blues important but narrow 1-0 win over the bottom club Barnet on Saturday Kirk will be interested to see how they fare against Luton Town, one of his previous sides. The Hatters are currently second in League Two with the Sky Blues just outside the playoffs on goals scored.  CCFPA’s President will be hoping for another Sky Blues win to keep the club’s own promotion/play-off credentials on track and that there will be a big ‘Ricoh Roar’ backing the Sky Blues from a decent turnout of the Sky Blue Army.

Kirk in jovial mood

At Kenilworth Road from 1978 Kirk accumulated nearly 250 appearances (and a couple of goals) with the Hatters and became a firm favourite as an attacking full back before returning to his home town club in 1984. At Highfield Road Kirk went on to make only 37 Sky Blues appearances (and a brace of goals) before his top level career was unfortunately curtailed by a severe knee injury in May 1986

Look out for Kirk touring the supporters’ lounges prior to the game mixing with the fans and then later, after the final whistle, why not come and see him chew over the night’s performance with CCFPA vice chairman Billy Bell from the stage of Lady Gs?

If you really can’t get to the game you can always listen to Kirk on the BBC CWR airwaves as he joins their live matchday commentary offering comment and analysis as the game unfolds. We trust he has a good night tonight and sees the Sky Blues close the League Two gap with their rivals!

Other former player members we are expecting at the game include:-

Dave Bennett, Micky Gynn, Ken Brown, Ron Farmer, Gordon Simms, Pete Wyer, Graham Walker, Bill Tedds, Brian Nicholas, Lol Harvey, Stuart Giddings, Peter Hormantschuk, Jim Blyth and Dietmar Bruck (and possibly John Tudor).
