After weeks of waiting, Coventry City chairman Ken Dulieu has announced that striker Marlon King has agreed to stay at the club.

King has told the club that he will sign the contract when he returns to the club for pre season training after the summer break.

Mr Dulieu said on the club's official website, "We promised supporters that we would do everything we could to keep the best players here at Coventry City and this is a great step toward that."

"It's really good that everything is verbally agreed and we look forward to completing the formalities. Marlon proved in the second half of the season that he is a fantastic striker and that he is capable of scoring goals. "

"We had always hoped that we could convince Marlon to stay and have worked tirelessly with Andy Thorn to make this happen. We regard Marlon as pivotal to our objective of building a team capable of competing effectively in the Championship and hope this also sends a strong signal to the other players that we are talking to about our        ambition for the club.

"That's why we offered him the best deal possible to remain at Coventry City and we are delighted that he has verbally accepted."

When King signed for Coventry City last summer, the fan base was split down the middle with many fans being upset that a family club would sign a player with such a controversial ans criminal past, but 14 goals in 24 starts along with his behaviour, both on and off the field, may fans have been won over and welcomes the top class striker to the club.

He was voted  as the Club Website's Supporters Player of the Year at the end of season awards dinner, a tribute that moved the striker.

Dulieu added, "We've had great buy-in from supporters so far this summer with strong Season Ticket sales and excellent feedback on the new kit. Hopefully this news will start to repay the faith they have shown and also encourage others to get on board."
