Kevin Kilbane has issued an apology

Speaking to Keiran Crowley after the 1-0 defeat at Crewe where some of the City support taunted the City players with "You're Not Fit To Wear The Shirts", Kilbane, who has been accused of swearing at a supporter who took exception to 'about his fifth misplaced pass in the space of five minutes' said: “Firstly, I want to apologise to all the fans who followed us to Crewe for the performance and the result.

“We want to be challenging in this league and that was simply not good enough and I can totally understand the frustration of our supporters.

“At one point, my own frustration got the better of me and I reacted to something one of our fans said to me.

“I wholeheartedly apologise and realise that, as club captain, I have a responsibility to conduct myself in a professional manner at all times and I have nothing but respect for the fans who have already travelled hundreds of miles around the country to support us this season.

“If the supporter in question were to come forward I would be only too happy to meet him in person to offer an apology face-to-face because I am genuinely sorry for that reaction.

“I only want the same thing as him – and all of the other supporters packed into Gresty Road today – and that is for Coventry City to start winning games and climbing this league.”
