The summer signing from Midlands neighbours Walsall suffered a slipped disc just one day joining City but he is now ready to begin challenging current number one Scott Shearer for the keepers jersey.

"I just need games now. I have been working hard with the other lads for a few weeks but I just need to get between the sticks and start playing games," Ward told the Coventry Evening Telegraph.

"I thrive on competition and wherever I have been there has been healthy competition.

"Goalkeepers tend to stick together because we have to, but it brings the best out in everyone if there is someone pushing to get in behind you. And likewise, if you are not in the team, you have to be pushing to impress the manager to get a look in."
