Middlesbrough could not be taking Coventry City forward Lukas Jutkiewicz to The Riverside Stadium.
It is understood that the deal hinged on Matty Bates being sold to Swansea City and with Middlesbrough rejecting the South Wales side's bid, they may not now have the money available to sign Jutkiewicz who has scored both of City's league goals this season.
