Comments made by Stern John are believed to have brought about the row between City Chief Executive Graham Hover and FIFA President Sepp Blatter.

According to the Trinidad and Tobago FA website, The City striker who joined recently from Birmingham City is reported to have said: "It's harder than ever now for me to come back and play for the country.

"The gaffer (Coventry manager Peter Reid) has even asked me to quit playing for Trinidad because he thinks it's taking too much out of me.

"But I've already decided that I want to give it one last try to reach a World Cup and I'll see how things go from there. "It's a sacrifice we are making because we are committed to T&T."

FIFA cannot act unless John makes a complaint but Graham Hover remained adamant saying: "Whether Blatter has jumped on the bandwagon because of what's happened at Chelsea, I don't know, but we are very annoyed .

"We look forward to receiving the letter we're supposed to be getting and we'll reply directly to him telling him exactly what we think about the situation."
