Stern John has returned to Coventry after Derby cut short his loan spell. The Trinidad striker failed to score in any of his six starts and one substitute appearances for the Rams and was not included by Phil Brown in his squad to face Cardiff City.

John will have his fitness assessed by Micky Adams and his staff over the next few days. The 29 year old is not guaranteed a place in the City squad and will find himself well down the pecking order behind the likes of Dele Adebola,Gary McSheffrey,Andy Morrell.

Craig Reid was the striker on the bench for the 1-0 win over Millwall and another goal from the Coventry born striker in Monday's reserve team friendly victory at Chesterfield (his seventh in league and friendlies this season) has strengthened his cause for a place ahead of John who may seek a move elsewhere in January in order to book his place in Trinidad's World Cup squad.

Also released by Derby was former Sky Blue Jonnie Jackson who made three appearances at Pride Park after being loaned out by Spurs.
