Stern John may not be the most popular player ever to pull on a Coventry City or Derby County shirt but today on the the island of Trinidad & Tobago, the striker has cult status after steering his country to a World Cup play-off with Bahrain.

Trindidad faced Mexico in Port of Spain needing a victory to book a place off place in the final round of North, Central American and Caribbean Group qualifying matches.

Stern John missed an early penalty before Mexico took the lead through a 38th minute chip from Jaime Lozano. The lead lasted four minutes before Stern John equalised.

On the hour mark, John sparked off wild scenes in the stands when he rifled home after some good approach play by Russell Lattapy.
Trinidad now face Bahrain in Port of Spain on 12 November with the second leg on November 16th in Bahrain.
