Joe Elliott MBE, who headed up the committee which brought the Jimmy Hill statue at the Ricoh Arena to fruition, has said that Jimmy Hill turned Coventry City into a big club.

Speaking to CNS Sport, Mr Elliott said:"Jimmy made Coventry City a big club on and  off the pitch.

"A true showman who led magic times at Coventry City and then became the face of football to the Nation and a household name.

"He never lost his passion for the Sky Blues and was always on hand to support our club and at the last game at Highfield Road and the first at the Ricoh, he was there leading the singing.

" His last public appearance was the Statue Unveiling which was a wonderful tribute he enjoyed with some of the sixties team and many hundreds of his Sky Blues fans.

"In true showman style he died at the magical 87 and on a match day when 15000 of us could laugh, cry, sing, shine lights and just remember our Jimmy Hill."
