Coventry City's young striker Shaun Jeffers has ended his loan spell at Cambridge United and has returned to his parent club.

Jeffers has returned to Coventry following the sacking of former manager Aidy Boothroyd as he needs to be with the rest of the squad so the new manager can assess his abilities.

The 18 year old Academy graduate was on loan at Cheltenham for the first half of the season and then went to Cambridge in an effort to get some competitive game time experience under his belt, but at Cambridge his opportunities were limited.

He has made just two substitute appearances for Cambridge in his month long loan spell.

Cambridge, like Coventry City are being managed by a caretaker boss and their stand in manager Jez George praised Jeffers' attitude and conduct while being on loan at Cambridge and was sorry he could not give him the playing time he needed and deserved.

Jez George said: "With Aidy Boothroyd leaving, he has got to go back to that club and impress whoever the new manager is when he comes in."

"For whatever reason, Shaun didn't get the minutes he'd have liked or we'd have hoped to give him. He's a great lad and he's conducted himself really well. He goes with our best wishes for the future."
