Jackett Coy Over Leon Clarke Bid

Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Kenny Jackett has refused to say if Wolves have made a bid for Coventry City's wantaway striker Leon Clarke.

Bill Howells of the Birmingham Mail quotes Jackett as saying: “We’ve made enquiries about several players but until a fee is agreed or a bid is accepted, it’s unprofessional to name those players because they belong to someone else.

“I would suggest with Clarke that there will be several clubs that have made strides towards bidding for him. For us, it’s not something I’m going to comment on.”

Jackett said that Leon Clarke handing in a transfer request on Monday morning was nothing to do with Wolves and said: “That’s nothing to do with us. I’m not confirming we have put a bid in.

“We have discussed and enquired and made quite strong enquiries about various players. But unless a bid is accepted, I won’t be naming those players.

“We’ve looked around at a number of players and targets. It’s not a situation where we’re waiting on one person.

“If we can bring in the type of quality we want, then fine, but if we can’t find that at the right price, then, whether it’s the end of the window or not, we won’t add. We will carry on with the very good players we’ve got.

“We’ll only add either a complement or someone who, in our consideration, is considerably better.”
