Coventry City striker Leon Clarke says that it is great being a striker in the current City team as you get plenty of chances.

Speaking to the Coventry Telegraph's Alan Poole, Clarke who hit a brace in the 4-0 win at Carlisle United on Saturday, said; It’s great for a striker playing in this team because you know you’re going to get chances and Callum will get plenty of goals if he keeps that up – I can’t praise him highly enough for the way he’s started.

"We’ve created a lot of chances in all our games and we felt we deserved more out of the first two.

“I don’t think we’ve had too much luck and perhaps we got that this time when Joe saved the penalty at 2-0 – he guessed the right way and got a big hand to the ball and we went on to get the third before half-time.

“You could see from the body language that that really sapped their morale. I’ve played in teams that have been 3-0 down at half-time and it’s very difficult to come back from that.

“Their keeper did really well, made some great saves, so you have to feel for him but it’s a cruel game at times.

“Our team spirit is great at the moment. As the manager said, the fact that a lot of these lads have come up through the youth system gives them that sense of unity – they all know that even if you’re not playing particularly well yourself it’s your job to work hard for the team.

“Some of the lads haven’t played much first-team football and I’ve tried to lead by example. I’m not a shouter, but I always work hard and hopefully the boys can see that.

“Three or four years ago you’d never have thought that I would captain a side but I’ve enjoyed taking that little bit of responsibility.”
