Scott Dann has been appointed team captain by Chris Coleman and Steve Kean.

The centre half has been the skipper for most of the games in pre-season and the management duo opted to give the Scouser the armband.

Chris Coleman told the CT: "Scotty Dann will be the new captain because for me, he's young and looking at the long term that will do him the world of good.

"He is still naïve at times and has made one or two mistakes in the pre-season, but the other side of it is that he is like a 30-year-old at times and he has got so much potential.

"He is very consistent and calm in the way he is, and he can lead within his play. "You don't have to rant and rave and be a bully to be a good captain.

"We want him to be here for the next three or four years, and a bit longer with a bit of luck, and in the long run I am sure he will be the best choice for us."
