The Chairman of the Ricoh Arena has said that it would be a tragedy if Coventry City do not return to the Ricoh Arena.

Speaking to BBC Coventry & Warwickshire, Chris Robinson, independent chairman of ACL, said: “The Ricoh Arena is a beautiful venue built for, essentially, a Premiership football club and it’s the home of Coventry City.

"For me it’s a great tragedy not to see them playing there.

“On the other hand the other parts of the Ricoh are beginning to grow and with the business we are doing there we are looking after the interest of the regeneration of that part of Coventry.

“We are a powerhouse in the economy at the moment with all the exhibitions and new business that we have been driving through

“The long-term plan is that we’ve had discussions with other sports franchises and the exhibition and conference business is getting stronger and stronger,” he said.

“But, being absolutely honest, it would be a tragedy not seeing the football club in that arena.

“All we can do is keep the arena in great condition and, if and when those people who own the football club decide it’s time to return, we’ll welcome any discussion with them and we will work with them despite whatever differences there have been in the past because we understand that is the right thing to do – for Coventry to have the team in the arena that was built for it.”
