Supporters Direct Chief Executive David Lampitt has said that football and the government should make it easier for supporters to buy football clubs.

The news comes following claims from a survey commissioned by Trevor Birch of BDO LLP that one in three club owners of Championship and League One sides want to sell their clubs.

Speaking to BBC Sport, Lampitt said: "Football and the government should be doing all they can to make it easier for supporters to take ownership of football clubs.

"It is not an alternative model of ownership; it is the best model of ownership, full stop.

"The authorities need to have the courage and foresight to help make this happen so that collectively we can deliver a game that is more sustainable, closer to communities and that prioritises the interests of fans."
