Coventry City keeper Danny Ireland has admitted that he is thrilled with his new two year contract which he signed this week.

The Australian joined City on trial in March 2007, not coming through the ranks as some would have you believe, although he has played for City U18's.

He did enough in those trials to earn a one year contract and become City Reserve's keeper for their one season in the Pontins League.

Ireland struggled to find form early on, but with help from Andy Marshall and Steve Ogrizovic, who gave him a lot of one to one tution, Danny earned a contract for this season.

He impressed in pre-season and deputised for Keiren Westwood in the friendly at Cambridge United before playing in the League Cup against Aldershot Town.

Danny has been loaned to Halesowen and Nuneaton and has been away with the Australian U20's side.

On his new two year deal, Ireland said to the CT:"I'm thrilled to have signed a new contract. I've worked hard since I have been here and am really excited for the next couple of seasons to try and improve myself.

"I had a word with the gaffer before I signed and he said that he wants me to go out on loan then hopefully, I can come back and have more experience to compete for the number one spot."
