Introducing Steve Barnett

Last updated : 27 April 2015 By SCG

The members of the SCG are representative of a variety of Coventry City supporters, supporters’ organisations and demographic groups. One of the most conscientious contributors is Steve Barnett.

Steve joined the SCG in 2006, having met Kev Monks at a Sky Blues friendly in Galway the previous year. Kev invited him to represent Covsupport News Service.  Since then, the club has adopted several of Steve’s initiatives such as the ‘Bring a Friend for £10’ voucher.

Steve’s passion for the Sky Blues stems from his first visit to Highfield Road, for the FA Cup Fifth Round tie with QPR on 16.2.1974. Having also followed England around the world for many years, Steve would like to see the club emulate the integrated match and travel tickets often provided by the England set-up. “Being able to present the match ticket on transport to and from the stadium is a great benefit,” he says.

Steve’s major concern is that the events of the past 18-24 months have left the Coventry support irretrievably fractured. “We have a calibre of manager way ahead of our league status,” Steve said in an article for City's programme.

“I just hope that the team can respond to him and that we can achieve some long-overdue success, which in turn will help to bring back those who have been lost to the club.”
