Whilst a number of City supporters watched England come from a goal down to beat Uruguay 2-1 at Anfield with goals from Peter Crouch and Joe Cole, there was plenty of international action.

Former Sky Blues Steve Staunton and Kevin MacDonald got their tenure of manager and coach of the Republic Of Ireland off to a great start beating Sweden 3-0 in Dublin. Former Sky Blue Robbie Keane who skippered the side scored as did Duff and Miller.

Scotland, who had former Sky Blue Gary Caldwell and Cov kid Graham Alexander in their starting line-up, were beaten 3-1 at home by Switzerland in Glasgow.

In Belfast, Cov kid James Quinn played for Northern Ireland in their 1-0 victory over Estonia.

Locally, Nuneaton Griff beat Coventry Copsewood 3-1 at The Pringles in a Midland Combination Premier Division fixture.
