Whilst some City supporters were in Copenhagen watching an abmissal display of England defending, it was defeats for Stern John and Claus Jorgensen who were on World Cup action. Stern John played as Triinidad & Tobago went down to a 1-0 defeat by the USA in Hartford,Connecticut. Fulham's Brian McBride scored the only goal of the game.

It was worse for Claus Jorgensen and his Faroe Islands team who were beaten 3-0 at home by a ten man Cyprus. In a game which was marked by a minute's silence before kickoff and the players of both teams wearing black armbands in memory of those killed when a Cypriot Helios Airways Boeing crashed in mountains near Athens,Cyprus had Eleftherios Elefteriou sent off and Coach Angelos Anastasiades banished to the stands when they were a goal up thanks to Michalis Constandinou. The same player scored again with a penalty in the 76th minute and Simon Krashias scored late on to record an easy win for the Cypriots.

Skippered by former City striker John Hartson, Wales drew 0-0 with Slovenia at Swansea City's New Stadium. Robert Page and Richard Duffy both started the game for John Toshack's side who face England in their next game at Cardiff.
