Coventry City manager Tony Mowbray has been stressing the importance of a dressing room full of good characters.

Speaking to the Coventry Telegraph's Andy Turner, Mowbray said: “I have tried to highlight the importance of the dressing room and how important the character of the dressing room is and the leadership in there needs to be.

“I have always tried to portray to people that dressing rooms at football clubs are living organisms and you don’t try to overly control them because they control themselves, if that makes sense.

“And if there are good influences in the dressing you have got a much better chance of being successful.

“You want a voice of reason, voice of understanding; human qualities really that will drive the team on through adversity as well as good times.

"It’s important to have good people and I put Sam Ricketts into that category and my first conversations when I spoke to him last season before he went to Swindon highlighted that for me, what a good human being he is.

“Now we’ve got him on board and in our dressing room and hopefully he’ll prove to be a big influence on the team on and off the pitch.”
