Coventry City manager Mark Robins said that he was extremely proud of his players after their 3-1 win at Colchester United.

Speaking to the Coventry Telegraph's Andy Turner, the City boss said: "That was an outstanding all-round performance and I'm really proud of them.

"Colchester are a good side, as they showed in the second half, but our passing was great, we scored three good goals and then stayed brave to see it out.

"We knew it was going to be a tough ask but we forced them to change the way they normally play, smashing it long, and although we conceded a poor goal. we never capitulated and we could well have scored a few more.

"We spoke about a clean sheet at half time and although we couldn't quite get that we're absolutely delighted with the three points.

"The first goal was as good a move as you will see and although there was a little bit of a debate about the second it was a good finish; I've seen the video and there doesn't look anything wrong with it to me.

"The third goal was clinical, as you'd expect from David McGoldrick in his current form, and it was a brilliantly measured through ball by Adam Barton. I had the option of putting on another striker at the end but I thought Adam would put his foot on the ball and calm things down and that's exactly what he did.

"They threw on Clinton Morrison which could have been a story because he's an awkward customer but we coped with that as well.

"We won't get carried away but we've got a couple of home games  coming up now so it's a great opportunity for us. We'll move on, prepare properly and be ready for Portsmouth on Saturday."
