Coventry Chairman Ray Ranson has said he will not be plucking a name out of the hat to be the next Sky Blues boss.

Speaking to Sky Blue Player, Mr Ranson, who is expecting to be inundated with agents offering managers, said: "I will not be plucking a manager out of the hat in the next 48 hours.

"I'm sure we will be inundated with applicants for the job because it is a big opportunity. Coventry City is a very big club.

"I took no pleasure whatsoever in giving Chris the bad news this morning. It's well documented we have had a very good working relationship so it's been a tough day."

Silly season has kicked off in earnest with names such as that of former manager Gary McAllister being touted around by some, although there is no-one in the frame at the moment for the job.
