Coventry City midfielder Sammy Clingan has said that he was not keen to play League One football following Norwich City's relegation last season.

The Northern Ireland international was worried about his place with the national team and said to the Ct: "One of the reasons I was so keen to come to Coventry was that I wanted to play at as high a level as possible to help maintain my international career.

"Norwich are a great club and I really enjoyed my time there, but I didn't really want to drop down to League One after just one season.

"I never had any doubts about making the move and it's great to be here at last: I've settled in quickly because it's a very tight dressing room the boys made me feel very welcome.

"I think I've proved that I'm a 100-per-cent player week-in, week out and the idea was for me to be the sitting midfielder and let Aron bomb on.

"Playing with two wingers is a very attacking formation, but as long as they tuck back in when they haven't got the ball we'll be all right.

"And I've no doubt that they'll do that - I played with David Bell at Norwich and I know about Michael McIndoe and they're both very good players."
