Former Coventry City midfielder Michael Hughes has admitted that he retired from football too early.

Hughes made eighteen (plus two sub) league and cup starts for the Sky Blues last season but announced his retirement after not being awarded a contract at the Ricoh Arena or anywhere else.

Hughes has 71 caps for Northern Ireland and is currently working for BBC Radio Ulster as a match summariser and he told BBC Northern Ireland Sport, just before Northern Ireland's World Cup qualifier with San Marino in Serraville kicked off: "I retired a bit early and I'm missing it.

"I'm looking at getting myself fit and finding a club at any level."

Former Sky Blue keeper Jonny Tuffey was not named as a substitute for the game which Northern Ireland won 3-0.

Craig Bellamy played for Wales in a 1-0 defeat by Poland.
