Coventry City midfielder Sammy Clingan has said that he does not want another relegation on his CV.

Speaking to the CT, Clingan said: “We don’t want to be going down that avenue thinking we can bounce back next year.

"We don’t want to be thinking about relegation even though it’s staring us in the face.

“I was relegated at Norwich and it leaves a very bitter taste in your mouth so I don’t want another one on my CV. Norwich bounced back straight away but you can’t count on that.

“There’s a big difference here because we’ve been playing well in a lot of the games,” he said. “It was really disappointing to come back from Brighton and Portsmouth talking about schoolboy errors that cost us because the all-round stats were good again and if anybody had looked at them they would have thought that Coventry had won those games.

“I’ve held my hand up for the first goal at Brighton and I need to stop doing stupid things as well. I know that if we cut out the silly mistakes we can finish at the other end of the table.

“It’s really hard to put your finger on what’s been going wrong – it’s not because the team has been out of position or anything like that, it’s been individual errors. But it’s got to stop and it’s got to stop quick, because we’re in a really difficult position at the minute.”
