Coventry City forward Leon McKenzie has said that he does not know if he will be getting a contract with the Sky Blues.

McKenzie ruptured his Achiliies against Birmingham City last February and has fought his way back to get a place on the bench against Swansea on Saturday.

"I'm out of contract at the end of the month so I don't know if I have a future at Coventry," said McKenzie to the CT.

"I know the gaffer has been behind me but the decision isn't down to him, it's the chairman and the other people at the club. I believe that I've still got a lot to offer but those things are out of my hands.

"Football is a business and I know the club have got to cover their backs but I've worked extremely hard to get to the levels where I am today and I would like to think they will look after me now.

"It would be great if they could at least give me a contract to the end of the season.

McKenzie was close to quitting the game altogether after the injury in February and said: "That was the hardest part of my career. "That injury really knocked me for six. I got to the point where I was probably going to call it a day.

"I've always been a good professional, looked after myself physically, and I've always had faith in my ability.

"But I've had so much bad luck and it gets you down when you're being affected by things that you can't control.

"I had to dig deep but I'm a fighter and I poured my heart and soul into getting back to the level where I could start playing in the Championship again.

McKenzie received a standing ovation from many City supporters when he came on as an 85th minute substitute on Saturday and this has lifted him.

"I knew the gaffer wouldn't give me too long on the pitch because it had been six months since I kicked a ball competitivel but it meant so much to me just to pull a shirt back on again," he said.

"The reception I got from the fans was fantastic - that gave me a real lift - and I thought I did OK in the time I had."
