Coventry City forward Roy O'Donovan has said that he does not hold any grudges against former manager Aidy Boothroyd for restricting his appearances last season.
The Irishman played nine minutes of league football and had cup outings against Morecambe and Crystal Palace under Boothroyd but has featured throughout pre-season and now into the season as the Sky Blues prepare for their fifth league game of the season at Middlesbrough.
Speaking to the CT's Alan Poole, O'Donovan said:“I came here looking to do well but, for whatever reason, I didn’t get a chance. “And to this day I really don’t know why.
“When a manager comes to a club there are always players who fall by the wayside because, for whatever reason, they’re not in his plans, but when Aidy signed me I thought ‘I’m going to get a crack somewhere.’
There was a spell from December to February when we didn’t win a game so I was waiting for something to change, to get a chance, but it didn’t.
"I don’t hold it against him – he’s a nice bloke – but it was almost as if I retired for a year.
“That was very hard and I can’t say there weren’t times when I wanted to leave, go somewhere else to play football because there were.
“That wasn’t to be but I didn’t moan – I think all the lads will tell you that – I just got my head down and worked as hard as I could in training.”
