Hughes Takes Double Award

Stephen Hughes picked up two awards in the Coventry City End Of An Era Banquet at the Metropole Hotel in Birmingham.

In front of a black tie crowd of 720 which included players, club officials, Civic dignatries, sponsors,media and supporters, Richard Keys hosted the Award ceremony which started with Players Player Of The Year. Luke Steele,Michael Doyle,Gary McSheffrey and Stephen Hughes were all nominated with Stephen Hughes collecting the award.

Top Goalscorer went to Gary McSheffrey whilst Goal Of The season which included such strikes at the winner by Andy Morrell at home to West Ham and Graham Barrett's at QPR, was awarded to Andy Whing for his stunning strike which was the last ever professional goal at Highfield Road.

There were three names in the frame for Young Player Of The Year. Voted for by Micky Adams,Alan Cork,Steve Ogrizovic and Brian Borrows who were all present, Isaac Osbourne picked up the award ahead of Stuart Giddings and Luke Steele.

The final award was was the Player Of The Year. Twenty players who had made ten or more appearances were whittled down to six with Dele Adebola,Stephen Hughes,Michale Doyle,Gary McSheffrey,Luke Steele and Stephen Hughes based on the votes received via the club website and Coventry Evening Telegraph. T he winner announced by Richard Keys was Stephen Hughes who said "I'll have to wait and see" to questions raised about his future at our club.

To mark the end of Highfield Road,a parade of "Legends" followed and saw Bill Glazier,Dietmar Bruck,Willie Carr,Ernie Hunt,Barry Powell,Gordon Milne,Mick Feguson,Brian Roberts, Bobby Gould,David Speedie,David Busst, Steve Ogrizovic,Brian Borrows,Greg Downs,Dave Phillips,Trevor Peake,Micky Gynn, Lloyd McGrath,Nick Pickering,Dave Bennett,Keith Houchen,Cyrille Regis,Brian Kilcline and John Sillett as well as members of the 2004-05 squad all brought to the stage.

The awards finished with a Lifetime achievement award to Jimmy Hill, who was not present due to injuring his back on the golf course and John Sillett collected the award on his behalf.
