Coventry Sphinx manager Luke Hopkins felt his side thoroughly deserved the three points from a 3-0 win over Rocester at Sphinx Drive on Saturday.
Speaking about Saturday’s win, Hopkins said: “The game started off with an unchanged team for the third game in a row as players are holding onto their shirts. We added Jacob Dobbs to the squad from our youth set up, Jacob had a good game for the Youth team on Thursday and I put him on bench for him to gain some first team experience which he got when he came on for last five minutes,
“We were quick out of the blocks and looking good. Luke Downes hit the post in the early minutes of the match and we really played well for the first 20 minutes with Ricky Cutting having chances. We continued creating chances through Cutting, Cain and Downes but did not put them away until we got a goal after dominating the early part of the match and Luke Williams scored on 21 minutes.
“The second half continued with us having the upper hand. Rocester were not out of the game but we were still creating chances. Then in the 88th minute, we scored a second goal when in form striker Rickie Cutting was played through on goal and finished superbly with a drive into the far corner
“Luke Downes scored a third in added time in a game where the back four played really well and keeper Carl O’Neill recorded a clean sheet.
“It was a thoroughly deserved three points to make it three wins out of three in March for us, and also a double over Rocester.”
Sphinx, who are now seventh in the Midland Alliance table, look to continue their home record which sees ten wins, three draws and two defeats tonight when they take on Boldmere St Michaels at Sphinx Drive. Kick off is at 7.45pm.
