Coventry Sphinx have announced Luke Hopkins as their new manager.

Hopkins, who has been in charge of Sphinx Sports & Social and was on the bench for Sphinx's 3-1 Midland Alliance victory at Tipton Town, replaces Carl Nolan and Andy Taylor.

In a press statement, Sphinx Chairman Danny Cahill said: "On behalf of the committee of Coventry Sphinx Football Club, It is with great pleasure that Coventry Sphinx Football Club wish to announce the arrival of Luke Hopkins as their new First Team Manager.

"Luke has been within the club for many years and has a real passion for the football club. He has managed to pull together a tremendous team of back room staff which will assist him in what is a very time consuming and pressure role.

“Following the departure of Danny McSheffrey and Lee Knibbs at the end of last season it was always going to be a real challenge in replacing them partially from outside the reaches of the club. "Luke is the ideal candidate and fits the role profile perfectly.

“Both Carl Nolan and his Assistant Andy Taylor arrived in the closed season and have both worked their socks off to get it right but just fell short in the end. This is not personal in any way shape or form. I have to think about the future stability of the football club and it was vital we moved quickly to resolve our current league form.

“It is never easy releasing managers who put a lot of time and effect with no financial gain but it became clear we needed to act sooner rather than later for everybody’s sake.

"We are truly grateful for the work Andy has put in since taking over from Carl albeit in a Caretaker role.

"Coventry Sphinx Football Club would like to thank Andy for all the hard work and commitment he has shown to club since his arrival and we wish him all the very best in the future."
