Luke Hopkins is relishing the prospect of being the new manager of Coventry Sphinx FC.

Hopkins, a club stalwart, has replaced Andy Taylor at the helm of the Midland Alliance League club and told the Sphinx official website:  Its a tough job but one that I am relishing. After losing 14 1st team players from last season it was always going to be a tough job whoever came in. Its now up to me and my Management team to prepare the squad for this Saturdays game against Heath Hayes.

“We have lost a further 7 players from this season’ s, newly assembled squad but I have got Kieran Johal, Christian Jordan, and Jordan Guest from the Youth team on 1st team forms. I have managed to persuade old warhorse Terry Ward and the influential playmaker Rob Stevenson back into the fold. Goalkeeper Lee Wilson has signed initially as cover. I have 4 others we are running the rule over with a view to signing before the game on Saturday. I might have to dip into the loan market to get a bit of experience in before the squad settles down. We have a busy month ahead of us but we must get back to winning ways. At the moment we are only four points behind my mid table target for the season which I think we are more than capable of achieving.

On the management front I have brought in Lynton Wilkinson as my Assistant, he has seen the highs and lows at the club and he was Assistant to Paul Charnley and Danny McSheffrey so his experience will be invaluable. Jimmy Holmes will be 1st team coach, Jimmy is a UEFA B qualified coach and is currently taking is A licence.

Lee-Jon Rhodes will asst Jimmy in a coaching role. All my Management team have been involved at the Sphinx before whether that be as a player, manager or in a committee role. I feel if we can all pull together in the same direction then we will be in for a good season from which we can build on.”
