Historians Hit Out Over Badge Change

Coventry City historian Lionel Bird has hit out at the decision to take the green out of the club badge.

The club badge did not have green in it for the 1987 FA Cup Final but newer badges, apart from the 125th anniversary badge on shirts, have the green which represents either historic Gosford Green or the green and red of the civic badge depending on which version you believe, on them.

It is understood by Mr Bird that by not using the green in the badge the club could make savings on printing and badge making costs of around 17%.

Proposed new badge

"Myself and Jim Brown were not at the Supporters Consultation Group meeting when this was discussed," said Lionel Bird to Covsupport News Service.

"We feel that the green is an important part of the badge and that this should have been put out into the public domain via the Coventry Telegraph, radio and websites."

It is a view shared by Sky Blue Trust Chair Rachael Brown, who felt that every City supporter should have been allowed a say on this matter.

Badges with green in them

We'll have the results on Christmas Eve.
