Haynes Red Card Was Significant - Pressley

Coventry City manager Steven Pressley felt that the sending off of Danny Haynes in the 43rd minute of City's 3-0 win over Notts County on Saturday was the significant moment.

“That was obviously a significant moment,” said Pressley to the Coventry Telegraph's Alan Poole, “but the key thing was the way we responded to it.

“There can be a tendency to relax when you’ve got the extra man while the opposition sometimes come out in the second half and play with a greater degree of freedom and intent.

"So I told the players at half-time that we needed to step up our work-rate, be even more professional and, to their credit, that’s exactly what they did – the effort they put into it was exceptional.

“We scored in the first minute which forced them out a little bit, enabled us to expose them. And the second goal showed what we are all about – we lost possession but we pressed back immediately, forced the mistake and then made the most of it.

“The wind made it a very difficult day for playing football but Leon Clarke and Callum Wilson took their goals brilliantly; there’s a nice bit of competition between them to see who can finish top scorer and that’s great for us because it gives an extra little edge to their game.

“But while they obviously get the headlines there are a lot of unsung heroes in this team. Blair Adams is one of them – he’s been outstanding in the last few weeks and the way he made Leon’s first goal was absolutely inspired.”
