George Best Is Dead

One of the finest players Great Britain has ever produced - George Best passed away today in a London hospital.

The 59 year old died from "multiple organ failure" after being admitted to hospital last week. A player of supreme skill and natural ability,

Best was capped 37 times for Northern Ireland scoring nine goals and netted 108 times for Manchester United for whom he made 465 appearances. He also played for Stockport County,Cork Celtic,Fort Lauderdale,La Aztecs,Fulham,Hibernian,San Jose,AFC Bournemouth before playing four times for Brisbane Lions in 1983 and ending his career.

His last appearance against the Sky Blues was in a benefit game for Nuneaton Borough on March 7th 1983 watched by a crowd of 4317.

The Football League have instructed that there will be a minute's silence before all Football League matches tomorrow.



Best was a lover and liver of the high life and it was the affects of alcohol which brought about his premature demise.
