Four Reasons Why The City V Morecambe Gate Was So Low

1 ENGLAND V SPAIN

England are well supported by many Coventry City supporters and a good number of City supporters who attend England matches would have tickets for the Spain game well before the first game at Morecambe was drawn.

The game also being shown live on terrestrial television would certainly have kept others away.

2 COSTS

The £15 admission price may have been set for the first game by the FA but for many, it was unjustifiably expensive when added to the costs of getting to the Ricoh Arena, food and drink etc, on a Tuesday night for a First Round Replay and coming just a few days after a home league match.

3 A LATE NIGHT

A midweek game at the Ricoh Arena is simply a no,no for some due to the time they get home from a game, especially those with very early starts the next morning. Matches at the Ricoh Arena very rarely kick off on time and the threat of going to extra time and penalties was enough to put people who have early work starts or those reliant on public transport, off going.

4 REPLAYS

Many supporters don’t agree with replays and fail to see why they should have to pay out again just because one team has not scored more goals than their opponents.

There have been calls for the FA to scrap FA Cup replays before the Third Round proper when the Premier League and Championship clubs come into the competition as most replays in the qualifying and early rounds, bar the odd exception (local derbies etc) don’t make any money for the clubs hosting replays, who have to pay 45% of the gate receipts after deductions, to their opponents, but so far, these have fallen on deaf ears at the FA’s HQ.
