Four Goal Martin Sends Sphinx Nap

Coventry Sphinx put in one of their best performances so far this season to thrash Midland Combination Premier Division Pilkington XXX 5-1 at Sphinx Drive tonight.

Kite had the visitors infront after seven minutes, but Craig Martin raced through to equalise in the 17th minute. For Martin,it was an excellent night. adding a second ten minutes later with defender Carl Winterbottom banging in a third in the 41st minute.

In the 67th minute,Martin completed his hat trick with a stunning free kick from the edge of the area and two minutes later lashed the ball into the net with a well executed drive to complete a fine game and move Sphinx into third place.

Elsewhere, Derby beat Barnsley 2-1 and Southampton beat Wolves 2-0 in Championship fixtures.

It was a bad night for former Sky Blue Gary Caldwell who conceded an own goal and then was a fault for the the second in Celtic's 3-0 defeat to Benfica.

Another former Sky Blue Robert Betts is interesting Brackley Town. Currently at Midland Alliance side Quorn, Betts is captain of the side and his performance against the Southern League Midland Division side in the FA Cup has led to the interest.

Brackley boss Phil Lines said that he had spoken to Betts on Tuesday and a deal was still alive,
