Former City Youngster Takes Over At Barnsley U23's

Former Coventry City youngster Martin Devaney has taken over as coach of Barnsley U23's.

Devaney came through City's youth team but was not offered a deal by the club in 1999 and left to move on to Cheltenham Town, Barnsley and Tranmere with loan spells at MK Dons and Walsall before dropping into non-league football.

The Cheltenham born midfielder became an A licence coach in 2015 and started work with Barnsley's academy.

He has now been appointed coach for Barnsley U23's and said to Barnsley's club website; "This is a huge honour for me, to step up as U23s Head Coach. I've been at the club now on a coaching basis for around three years full time and I've enjoyed my work immensely.

"There's a real pathway at Oakwell, our younger players know there'll be opportunities there for them. And they only need to look at what John Stones is doing right now with England to see that.

"I'm looking forward to stepping up this season and working with the new first team coaching staff as we look to continue to help players bridge that gap from development level football and league football."
