Former England goalkeeper Peter Shilton, who had a couple of months on trial for Coventry City in 1996, but left without playing a competitive first team game, has got engaged according to Hello magazine.

Shilton, who played for City in a pre-season game at Finn Harps (1-0 win) and a friendly at St Albans (7-2 win) as well as some reserve team games, has got engaged to Jazz Singer Steph Hayward.

"We've been dying to make an announcement because obviously it's a really exciting thing for us, but the timing wasn’t right before," Shilton , whose first marriage to Sue – the mother of his two children – ended in 2011 and whose son Sam also played for City Reserves, told HELLO! "My divorce took a bit longer to finalise than I was expecting, but at the same time, it was important to me to let Steph know how I felt about her, although I think she knew anyway.

"After my first marriage broke down, I never expected to have a serious relationship again. Both Steph and I feel so incredibly lucky to have found one another. It was meant to be."
