Former Coventry City winger Chris Birchall has been given a two game ban after a reckless tackle.

Birchall, who helped Coventry City win the Birmingham Senior Cup in 2007, now plays for LA Galaxy with David Beckham and made the tackle in the 93rd minute on Chicago Fire's Patrick Nyarko.

Birchall was cautioned and now also faces a $500 fine for the incident, which the Disciplinary Committee said “showed utter disregard for his opponent’s safety.”

Birchall will be suspended for the Galaxy games against Columbus Crew and away to Vancouver Whitecaps FC.
