Former City Lady Plays In England Romp

Former Coventry City Ladies defender Laura Bassett played for England Women's this afternoon in their final World Cup Qualification game.

England were away to Montenego and included Bassett, now at Chelsea, in their defence, but the play was mainly up the other end as Eniola Aluko gave England a sixth minute lead which was followed by a goal for former Coventry City Girls youngster Karen Carney in the 22nd minute and a second for Aluko on the half hour mark.

It was four in the 37th minute through Lucy Bronze of Liverpool and early in the second half, there was another goal for Carney.

Toni Duggan hit a sixth goal in th 56th minute before Bassett was replaced by Jo Potter.

Aluko completed her-hat-trick and four minutes from time, Montenegro's Irena Bjelica was sent off for handling on the line, which brought a penalty that Karen Carney missed by sending it over the bar.

In the final minute, Alex Greenwood hit England's 50th goal of the campaign and goals from Jo Potter and Toni Duggan in stoppage time as England took a 10-0 victory.
