Former Coventry City Ladies defender Laura Bassett and former City youngster Karen Carney played in the Birmingham City Ladies team which won the Womens FA Cup today  following a penalties win after a 2-2 draw in the Final at Bristol City's Ashton Gate.

In a competition which is always going to be dominated by WSL teams who do not come in to the competition until the closing stages and which last year staged its final at the Ricoh Arena, the first half was goal-less although Chelsea did hit a post through Lander and Taylor had a goal chalked off in the 34th minute.

The deadlock was finally broken in the 69th minute when Helen Lander got through to score.

Rafferty cleared off the line for Chelsea in stoppage time but the ball came back in and Rachel Williams side footed in to draw Birmingham level and send the game in to extra time.

Chelsea had used all their subs and were down to ten players when Kate Longhurst nipped in to fire home in the 101st minute.

Ten minutes later, Birmingham, who play their WSL games at Stratford Town FC, levelled for the second time in the match when Karen Carney curled in a controversial free kick to take the match into penalties which Birmingham won.
