Former City kit man sentenced to 20 months

A former Coventry City Academy kit mananger Tony Shiels has been convicted of child sex offences and sentenced to 20 months in prison.

Shiels was caught in a police sting when he tried to contact two girls who he believed to be aged 12 and 14, but were in fact undercover police investigators with fake profiles.

The 53 year old father of six also pleaded guilty to four accounts of making indecent pictures of children.

The offences occured in 2015.

A Coventry City FC spokesman previously said: “Mr Shiels was fully DBS checked prior to the commencement of his employment.

“The club were made aware of the allegations against Mr Shiels in November 2015 and he was suspended with immediate effect.

“There are no instances where alleged offences involved any member, staff or players, of the football club.”
