Former Coventry City keeper Magnus Hedman has admitted that he blew £5m on drugs and has been close to killing himself on several occasions.

Hedman, who had 58 caps for Sweden, struggled with life after retiring from playing.

The former keeper, who has a conviction for paying for sex with a prostitute, has told a Swedish newspaper that he thinks he has blown £5m on cocaine, amphetamines and sedatives.

He claims he is now destitute and said:  “Today, my economy’s very bad. I can’t give you an exact figure, but I’ve burned everything that’s not in pension funds.

“I thought several times to take my life – and I got really, really close at one point.”
