Former City Keeper Attacked

Former Coventry City goalkeeper Chris Kirkland was attacked tonight whilst playing for Sheffield Wednesday against Leeds United in the 1-1 draw at Hillsborough.

Leeds had just drawn level in the 77th minute through Michael Tonge when a male came out of the Leppings Lane away end and ran on the pitch and shoved Kirkland in the face.

The man got back into the stand as others tried to get on the pitch on a night where there had been reports of trouble with bottles being thrown and songs from both sets of fans going way past the normally accepted lines of banter.
