Former City defender on the move again

Former Coventry City defender Danny Fox has been sold by Burnley to fellow Championship club Southampton in a similar manner to his departure from Coventry to Celtic in 2009.

Coventry sold Fox, and fellow defender Scott Dann, for a profit a year after buying the pair from Wallsall, in order to help reduce costs and balance the books.

Burnley have now had to do the same after failing to get back into the Premier League at their first attempt following their relegation a season ago.

Just like the Coventry fans, who were hugely disappointed at losing two quality players, Burnley fans are venting their own anger at their board after hearing about the sale of Fox and the Burnley board have been forced into  making a statement to explain the move to their disgruntled fans.

The statement read, "The Board of Directors is aware of the concerns of supporters following recent player sales. As custodians of the club, the Board is ever-mindful that we must balance the books and keep our wages at a manageable level to ensure the future of this football club."

"Clearly, relegation from the Premier League has meant we must look ever-closely at this wage bill and our strategy of implementing a more uniform wage structure within a streamlined squad."

"In the case of Danny Fox, as with other summer departures, the offer the club received was one that the Board could not refuse.”

As for the 25 year old Fox, who could make his debut for Southampton against Barnsley this weekend, he explained to Saints fans via the club website he just wants to settle down at a club having moved regularly from club to club since he was at Wallsall.

He said: "I want somewhere that I can call home and hopefully that'll be here if I can live up to expectations. I want to settle somewhere for more than 18 months or two years."

"I like to get forward from left back and get involved in attack, but my main duties are defending and stopping my man from crossing the ball into our box, as well as keeping clean sheets."

"I like to supply for our forwards as well, and hopefully I can do that here. There's going to be competition for places and I have to earn the right to play."
