Forgotten Man To Return

Coventry City's forgotten man Leon McKenzie will be back ready for the start of the new season.

The striker was signed from Norwich on the same day City signed Kevin Kyle and started last season up front for the Sky Blues. He played all the League matches up until the away game at Palace when he limped off in the 71st minute.

After coming back in the home defeat against West Brom, he played in the league matches before going off injured in the 69th minute of the home game with Southampton with a thigh injury which kept him out the rest of the season.

Said Chris Coleman to the CT: "I like Leon. "He is one of those characters who is a tough boy with a background from a boxing family and he has a great way about him. He loves his football and loves being in the dressing room with the lads.

"You want characters like that because he gives you everything he has got. He can play on the left, the right, and down the middle and I didn't want to mention him because I thought everyone had forgotten about him because of the time he missed last year.

"But Leon will be part of our squad next season. I am hoping he will be fit to start pre-season but the last bit of his rehab is the most important bit and we can't rush him, so we will wait and see."

"He was an apprentice at Palace and in the same year as Clinton Morrison. They were mine and Richard Shaw's boot boys and we used to give them a bit of a hard time, although I hope he has forgiven me for that.

"I won't give him a hard time now because he is grown up and he would probably put me on my backside if I tried to give him a hard time now.

"He is a great kid. I like the way he plays his football, the way he trains and he plays with a lot of passion and emotion and I am looking forward to working with him this year."
