Forget The Big Names

Coventry City manager Iain Dowie can forget any big name signings before the August transfer window. Paul Fletcher admitted that whilst talks with Manhatten are still on going, plans to bring in big name players to boost the squad have been put on hold.

Said Fletcher to the CT: "What we've said to Iain Dowie is we're not trying to get a quick fix for the football club, we're looking at the long term plan that will allow us to move into the Premiership within a time frame.

"If we miss this transfer window, so be it. "He's brought in some fantastic players on loan signings, free transfers and all sorts of stuff.

"It's almost certain now it will not be concluded or rushed through quickly just so Iain Dowie gets money to buy new players this summer. "I don't think there's a chance now because of these protracted negotiations. There's no point me misleading him or the fans. "If you ask me an honest question, I think we've missed this particular transfer window and that's life."

Dowie will keep looking for free transfers and loans. He is still in the market for cover for David McNamee and a regular third choice keeper but has said that there have been no offers for any of his side.

One thng the City boss has promised this season is attacking football with two wingers providing crosses for the front two. Those who have seen City in the pre-season games so far will have been impressed by Julian Gray who scored twice at Ballymena and Ellery Cairo who was excellent down the wing at Glentoran last Tuesday and Dowie is hoping that these two can get the goals which the Sky Blues lacked last season.
